The brief

Geo Cargo Alliance connects independent freight forwarders worldwide, and everything the alliance does runs on two things: who is a member, and who is in the room. GCA came to us with neither built. There was no identity, no site, and no system — memberships, renewals, payments and the conference programme all lived in inboxes and spreadsheets.

What we did

We built the brand first, because the alliance sells membership to businesses deciding whether it is credible enough to join. The mark, the wordmark and the type and colour system came before any interface, so every screen that followed had something to be built from.

The public site carries the case for membership — the network, the events programme, financial protection, insurance and marketing benefits — and it is the front door to the member area rather than a brochure sitting beside it. Members sign in through the same site they were sold on.

Behind it is the system the alliance actually operates. Membership records, applications and approvals, payment capture, and renewals that the team can see coming rather than discover after they lapse. It is the operational core, so it was built to be run by GCA staff daily, not by us.

The events module is the second half, and it exists because a networking alliance is judged on its conferences. It holds each event, its attendees and their registration status, the payments attached to them, and the sponsorship packages sold against it — so the commercial picture of an event and the guest list are one record rather than two.

Where it landed

GCA runs its membership and its event programme from one platform its own team administers. Applications, approvals, payments, renewals, attendee registration, status changes and sponsorships are handled in the system rather than in email, and the public site and the member area are one build on one identity.
